Day 26: 3 Steps Towards Godly Confidence

Through the years, I have struggled with self-confidence.

People think that’s crazy because I don’t portray on the outside the insecurities that plague my insides. But truly, I do. I easily can find myself worrying about…

how I am performing,

what you are thinking of me,

and if I can really do it.

One of the reasons this 31 day RADIANT study intrigued me was simply found in the meaning of the word. How could God’s light help or enable me to be more confident? I couldn’t connect the dots. I didn’t understand HOW.

But, I’m learning. And, I am actually beginning to experience confidence and security in such a fresh, new way.

Here’s the thing:

When my goal is to be radiantto reflect the beauty and power and purpose of Jesus, my light– my focus shifts off myself.  Instead,

my heart is purposed to display His glory, not my own.

my significance is settled firmly in Him.

I am confident that because of my reflective position He will shine through me.

I don’t obsess about performing like I used to, because I am more interested in reflecting.

His light in me takes my eyes off myself. He is the One who was shining. I am only in the position.

Radiant confidence is rooted in nothing I do but in all of who He is. He is tried-and-true, always-and-forever, the same yesterday, today, and forever, faithful.  It starts and ends with Him.

This is really changing my life, my heart, my insides. So, I offer to you a few things that have made a difference for me:

  1. Get over yourself. It’s not about you. It’s not about how you feel. It’s not about how you look. It’s not about whether people like you.
  2. Ask God for help. Invite Him into that space of deficiency, of need. Don’t be scared. Don’t pretty it up. When you are able to look full on at your weaknesses and admit that you just plum can’t do it, you are well on your way to tapping into the extreme power of God!
  3. Every day, I mean E.V.E.R.Y D.A.Y, wash your crazy brain in the truth. Read one Psalm a day. Read a great devotional. It doesn’t have to be long. Set your thoughts on Him. Focus on His light. If you don’t, you will be operating from the get-go with a handicap.

I know these may seem “churchy.” But, friend…it sounds churchy because it is what the church teaches because it is what God says!  I think we have become immune and inept to tapping into the power that’s right at our fingertips, the confidence that His light brings.

So, get back to the basics! As you do, I think you will be amazed at how it begins to shape you into radiant confidence!
