Day 10: Becoming Radiant Begins With These Two Questions

Happy Monday! Let’s refresh a bit from last week:

You, yes you, can be radiant.

You don’t have to work to shine brighter. Look to the Lord.

You don’t have the capacity to shine on your own. Get in the position to reflect Jesus, the true light.

Radiance is not about you.

So at this point, I wonder if you are thinking:

Yes, yes! I want to be radiant! I want to be dazzling, sparkling, beautiful from the inside out. But…HOW?

I am so glad you asked.

You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light. 2 Samuel 22:29, NIV

Today will require some real soul-searching, but it is essential to move forward.  I mean really essential, a “have-to” kind of situation.

In order to be radiant, you need to ask yourself these two questions:

  1. Is God Lord of my life?

Now… throw out the easy, churchy, automatic, Christian-y talk. Throw out that immediate “O, yes. Of course. I go to church/read my Bible/pray.”

Be brave enough to evaluate: Do I live like God is in absolute control? Do I obey Him with love and humility?

Be brave enough to ask: God, search me. Does my life give evidence that You are Lord of it? Am I in full surrender and trust?

Sit in quietly and wait for the answer. Confess those things that come to mind. Those things that are prideful and selfish and bitter. Be brave. Face your sin and allow God to wash it away.

2. Do I believe He is THE light, my light?

David wrote this as a song when the Lord delivered him from his enemies and from Saul. He had just come through a massive victory, and he couldn’t help but reflect and praise God for what He had done.

David said “MY light.” He embraced God, His Lord, as the One who illuminates his path, who turns his darkness into light, and who shows him the way.

Do you embrace God as your light? Do you believe that God is able to shine His light, be with you in the struggle, and show you the way right where you are?

In your laundry pile-high days?

In your my-kids-are-driving-me-crazy days?

In your that-didn’t-go-like-I-had-hoped days?

In your I’m-so-confused-I-don’t-know-what-to-do days?

He is the everlasting light, whether you believe it or not. You have access to Him to help you find your way in this crazy life.

By answering these two questions honestly, you are on your way to being in the best position to reflect Him and to becoming radiant.

That, my friends, is where we leave it today. Let’s do the honest work. It’s so worth it!
