This is not a beat-down. Instead, an encouragement. The truth: we will never measure up to the perfection of Jesus, the perfection of His attitude in any and all situations. The good news: He doesn’t expect us to.
The hope and strength comes with knowing that in Him, we can.
We can be loving when the other person doesn’t deserve it.
We can be patient when we want to pull out our hair.
We can be confident when insecurity drips from our heart.
We can, because He is.
What common, recurring attitude- point of view, way to look at situations and people- do you see in Jesus?
“When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Matthew 9:36
“When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them and healed their sick.” Matthew 14:14
Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people.” Matthew 15:32
Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately, they received their sight and followed Him. Matthew 20:34
Compassion: He sees their need and He moves to help.
Lord, help me see the needs in others and fill me with compassion.
Move me to help and serve them.
My ugly attitudes are usually exposed because of other people: my kids, my husband, my friend, the co-worker on my project, the stranger driving like a madman on the road. What about you?
What if we could gain Jesus’ point of view, His attitude? Not demanding or clinging to our rights in relationships with others.
What if we would instead be filled with compassion for them, like He is.
oooohhhhhhh- it’s not easy. And, there are healthy boundaries to remember. But, let start somewhere.
Ask God today to help you see “that person” in your life as He sees them- in desperate need of a Savior. And, be looking for some way to serve them. It’s the ultimate attitude, the point of view of Jesus!
He is what we are TO BE. He is who WE CAN BECOME.
Let’s be honest. In my natural sinful self, I am not. Instead, I am full of
to name a few.
I operate from this point of view thus forfeiting the freedom and abundant life I’ve been given through Jesus.
Join me in the weeks to come as we journey in the Old Testament and unpack these 6 how NOT to be attitudes– exposing in each of our hearts the root issue and witnessing that the consequences are just not worth it.
Ugly no more.
See you on TUESDAY!
